14 Sport Oil Consumption and Stumble

I've read a few threads, and seems a few other people are experience the low idle stumble. I seem to be having that at low speed, you can feel it kind of miss or stumble. Haven't seen any threads where anyone has found a solution to that problem yet. Anyone found one yet?

I took the '14 in for it's first oil change, and brought up two issues. 1 was on downshifting, the sport feels like it gets hung up and will not downshift, makes the car almost chug along, and you can almost feel it slightly buck as it slows down. Service manager said they would need to have the sport for a day, and probably reprogram Tranny. Ok. find. But has anyone had the same issue?

2nd. Issue was, I was checking oil levels here and there, and about 3 weeks ago I noticed the oil level was 1 quart low. So put some oil in the car. I brought the issue up and the service person said "throw anything you know about engines out the window with these new cars, as Ford says it's normal to lose a quart of oil in 10k miles."

So is it normal to go through a quart of oil in about 7k-10k miles on a new engine? Seems strange to me.....

The Sport is supposed to lose a quart of oil between changes per your dealer? In my experience that sounds awfully strange. Really strange. A properly functioning vehicle should not be burning/losing any oil.

Assuming this is not normal (and I can't see how it is), it could be a PCV valve, valve seals, gaskets, cracked cylinder head, oil cooler, or even the turbo itself amongst other things. None of these things would be expected with such low miles, but something is wrong IMO and I'd not be driving around in a vehicle burning oil like that unless it was a 12 year old beater.

I'd go to another dealer and see what they have to say, and if it is the same story I'd pay for an opinion from an indy on what could be wrong.

Others feel free to chime in if the Sport is supposed to lose a quart of oil between changes.
 












theres $100K cars out there where a small loss of oil is "normal". i dont like the sound of it either.
 






I think you should read and listen to the video from two recent posts "Ford Ecoboost Warning" Parts 1 and 2. Part 2 is just above on this page.....It would seem to have something to do with our vehicles stumbling and miss. Possibly Peter could connect the links....Best regards Plum
 






Our '14 Sport has the stumbling issues too. Taking it BACK to the dealership on Monday to let them play with it again. They had it for about 3 days a little over a week ago. Hopefully this time they can make it count.
 






Is your "stumble" only upon start up when cold and only for a brief second? If so I wouldn't worry about it. Previous F150 would do the above, never had any issues with it after 10 seconds of being started. When the motor was first started the brief stumble coincidence with what sounded like the motor was pressurising from the turbos. Never did miss in driving or after the cold start and the stumble was only a nano second.

Mine stumbles while driving. Around 60mph, if you ease into the pedal, it will buck and stumble. Shakes the vehicle when it occurs.

I have the same thing.....even at a steady throttle at different speeds, it almost feels like a missfire. Haven't gotten the car into dealer again yet, but plan on soon. Let them look at the tranny (service guy said they needed a day to probably reprogam it, and the stumble.

Well as to the loss of oil....If your engine is new and has the original, as delivered oil, you will loose up to about a quart as the engine breaks in. It will loose oil thru the cylinder walls and valves/valve guides as mating surfaces wear into their operating tolerances. You will also loose a little bit thru the bearings in the turbos. This should stop after the first 3000 t0 5000 miles. I lost oil during my break in period also, almost 1 quart. I have not lost any since the first oil change.,
 






Im concerned about fuel burn and oil issues as well. Are you guys seeing this kind of residue on your exhaust tips.

Well I certainly am seeing this heavy concentration of "soot", carbon or whatever it is. I have been concerned about it from almost day one, and mentioned it several times in various posts on this Forum... I have been to Ford several times about this and they just laugh, saying it's normal....Well I don't think it is, but Ford will do nothing or has no solution....Now there is a video out about it and the potential valve problem connected with it, and still Ford does nothing....I'm pretty well fed up with Ford and it's about time they "man up" and fix the problemmmmmmm's. best regards Plum
 






I have carbon build-up close to that on my exhausts and I don't have direct ignition or a turbo. Makes me wonder about my poor mileage. Anybody get strong mileage on a normally aspirated a few years have carbon build-up similar to that?

As for turbos, the carbon the exhausts seems more common. My Saab is turbo but not direct ignition (regular fuel injection) and the exhaust is caked. Great mileage and runs great.
 






Exhaust pipes are completely normal.When you are out and about look at other vehicles with polished exhaust and you will see the same thing. All do it whether forced induction or not, you probably just didn't notice it because of the tail pipe. BTW my SC'd Jaguar does the same thing, previous Expedition and non EcoBoost Fusion did the same thing. Neighbors Suburban also does the same thing.

On a side note Direct Injection has been around a long time particularly on diesels as and those big rig motors will run a million miles. GM has also had a direct injected turbo out since about 2009 in some of their vehicles and it's proven to be reliable vs. One guys video opinion. Not to say that his situation isn't real, but if it were the norm and Ford didn't test these motors well beyond 100k miles and didn't feel they were going to be reliable they wouldn't have released them.

+1. My tips look the same as the tips on my 2011 335i (turbo n55 inline six cylinder). No worries.:thumbsup:
 






Exhaust tips are dirty all the time when in town stop-n-go driving. When I'm on the freeway only the soot doesn't appear as much. The extra soot is just from having forced induction high compression engine, well high compression for being TT. 10:1 is the factory spec (most forced induction engines are less than 10... or less than 9:1 really). More forced power = more soot.

Also, IDK about it being a quart low. I am at 17k miles and just had my second oil change done (first one was at 8000 miles, still had oil life left). I check the oil every 2500-3000 miles and have NEVER been low. This is on a '13 Sport.
