96 Explorer XLT 5.0
I have had my 96 XLT V8 5.0 since June of 1999 (bought with 42k) and its been a great vehicle. Snow, rain, mud, mountains, and everything in between---no off roading though. Just your average driver who has trecked many a miles to Tahoe while living in CA and many trips to the Bird here in Utah.

Besides basic maintaince, I have had to replace about 5 major things in the vehicle. All have been within the past 4 years and I do none of this work myself.

1. Blend Door-$630.00
2. Transfer Case--$600 (used one+install)
3. Complete AC replacment---about $700.00
4. Ball joints and controll arms--$950.00
5. Passengers manifold--about $600.00

ERG Valve went out 3x--2x while under warranty (no cost)--they welded it in.

Bank 1 sensor 2 went out 1x every year for 3 years. So far so good for the last 1.5 years.

Rear differential seal being replaced as I speak. About $200

No major engine or tranny problems to speak of. Im **** about maintenance and the vehicle is in great shape for being 12 years old.

I'll probably drive it into the ground.

re

i just turned 160k on a 2000 mty v8 awd. i had to do the control arms and lower ball joints last year. but none of that other stuff. either im lucky as hell, or i prolly got some serious repairs coming my way this year :)

thats high for ball joints...IMO

Actually, it was $850.00 with an AWD alignment and tax---Sears.

The rear differential seal and heat shield clamp was $183.00 today.

Just ordered 32" BFG T/A's for the rebuilt power steering pump, electric fuel pump (died on me) for the 77 Bronco Sport. Tires have a lot of tread but they are 10 years old. The Bronco may go on the market soon.

If it isnt one vehicle, its the next!!

re

i have noise under there still when i go over bumps at slow speed. its probably the upper ball joints now. shoulda got em done when i had the other work done. squeaky too, as the dude who did the work for me didnt put the kevlar back in the torsion bars. but they seem to be holding up.

like i said, i probably got some repairs coming my way
