Toluene is for increasing octane rating.

BBQ, can you go to the junkyard where your X rests in piece and pull an injector, and maybe some seals to test?

It works in Non-N/A engines, one gal, t in 10 gal 91 octane gas, will get you 93.5 octane gas, all it do's is stave off detonation.
It do's nothing for N/A computer controlled engines, I have run 103 octane gas in my SOHC, on a Dyno, and have seen zero H.P. increase.
Boosting your Octane only works with High boost S.C.s, turbos, or major NOS applications

Add three NO2s to toluene and what do you get??? One overplayed AC/DC song!

TNT! I'm dynomite! TNT! I'll win the fight! TNT! I'm a power-load! TNT! Watch me explode!

Hi all:

I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread. I started baselining my mileage yesterday, so I can experiment later if I decide to. I want to make one comment...

Increasing the octane of your fuel does not, by itself, increase performance of your engine. It does permit it to be tuned for more power by advancing the timing, raising the compression, or leaning out the fuel mixture, because higher octane fuel is less likely to detonate. However, unless you have your engine tuned for it, you won't see any difference in performance by adding toluene or any other octane booster.

Regards,
John.

Another thing acetone is good for is removing crazy glue. I glued my fingers together once and reached for a bottle of my g/f's nail polish remover. Since then I got a gallon of acetone at Home Depot.

spta97, I think generic fingernail polish remover is in the teen % of purity. Don't quote me on that, it's just what I remember; I may be wrong.

One time she needed help removing her nail polish so I grabbed the gallon of acetone. She explained that they are not the same thing :D

I have used finger nail polish remover to get the glue off vehicles where the emblems were stuck on. It works....just a little slower than the purer stuff.

UH, me thinks it will also remove the paint

True, but we were rebuilding/painting cars at the time. It was just a fast way to get the glue off. :D

acetone evaporates so quickly that I'd be curious as to how long it will stay in a tank.
also, at the concentrations they're talking of, I'd say that there would be no harm whatsoever caused to any plastic components by the acetone, But before tossing some in, I'd try splashing some on the plastic explorer tank!

ken.

Just for reference, 2oz/10gal is equivelent to 4 drops per 1/2 cup. :p

Your fuel system is closed, once it's in there, the only way out is through the tail pipe, unless you have a bad gas cap.

Jamest, what are your preliminary observations??

His truck died yesterday. :p

my long time affair with spaying lacquer on cabinets led me to use 3 to 4 oz. of lacquer thinner (a mix of toulene benzine acetone and ?) in my truck. It didnt make it go faster however it did run smoother especially in winter. the truck had a carb not injectors. I think it only cleaned the gas lines and carb. etc. It may have contributed to the recent replacement of all the rubber gas lines. However I cant get too excited as they were on the truck when I bought it new in 1972. I still own the Chevy 350 . It still has the original quadrajet (rebuilt many times)

No observations so far. Hell, itll be two weeks before i use the first tank anyway. My X has always idled smooth and ran good so i cant tell any difference.

Acetone will not eat any plastic??unless it is paper thin...

As a furniture refinisher I used Acetone daily and soak my hands in it daily. and yes it does evaporate quickly, but doesn;t harm my hands unless an open cut is present of course...
it doe evaporate quickly when sitting alone but when mixed into 20 gallons of Gasoline I am hard pressed to think much if any would disappear...

Just opinions of course..
