I sent in my oil sample from the 15k miles interval. I am using Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 oil and Amsoil filters. The filter has been changed at 7.5k and 15k with a new quart of oil added each sample period.

The results are as follows:

>>RESULTS OF TEST PERFORMED INDICATE NO CORRECTIVE ACTION REQUIRED<<
>>OIL IS SUITABLE FOR CONTINUED USE
CHANGE FULL FLOW FILTER - IF NOT DONE WHEN SAMPLED
TOP OFF SYSTEM
RESAMPLE AT NEXT REGULAR INTERVAL<<

This should further debunk the myth if the 3k-mile oil change. At the 3-5k interval, one is simply wasting their money ( if they are using this great oil )..

Did the analysis results give the amounts of particulate matter found in the oil, or was it just a statement saying you can continue to use the oil?

interesting results, but gerald did something like this a long time ago, and its one of those things that isnt gonna change people. i, for one, will continue to "waste my money."

3,000 miles

I get my oil changes for free as long as I own my X so no money being wasted here either. ;)

I use the WalMart gallon and 1 QT syn every 4K. I have 125K on it and never had a problem. Studies have shown that regular oil changes around 6-8K meets the needs of the engine.

Care to elaborate?

Pardon my naivete, but is Amsoil Series 2000 synthetic or dino?

Its full synthetic; taker a look at their site on this oil at Dead Link Removed

Does it work for you?

I tried but all I get is this.....

aldive, I'm interested in the details of the report if you can post them here I can compare against my 3000 mile dino oil. That could make for some interesting comparisons.

3000 mile drain interval is not a waste of money, it's a waste of your engine. synthetic oils bond more readily to your engine parts, the resist breakdown better, and they don't make your engine work as hard. i have a friend (mechanic) here in Orlando that has over 1,000,000 miles on an early 70's vintage C10 pickup truck. synthetic is a revolutionary product as far as i'm concerned and the results speak for themselves.

Thanks for sharing, that's much better to read :)

I don't know how significant it is, but your wear metals are accumulating and are usually higher than mine. Just taking one of the measurements for comparison, the the Iron (Fe) is 21 on mine, and yours is 49 up from 18 from your previous sample. That makes sense since mine has much fewer miles on the oil but I wonder if they can cause any harm by recirculating. These must be too small for the oil filter to get so maybe they arnen't a problem?

Maybe they could give you some analysis on the wear metals as to how they are compared to averages.
