Thank you

Tire size

What size tires did you but on your Aerostar. And did you have to raise it with the BFG -TA

Other Aerostar forum

This morning I was on the other Aerostar forum and the topic of rims came up. There's a member from California who posted photos of his Aerostar and it looked beautiful. He's running Lincoln town car aluminum mag wheels with 225-60r-15. Not only are they wide and fill the tire wells but he also shows when he goes to Northern California with tire chains. Those mags looked rich, and made the Aerostar looking upscale. I'm not promoting the other site I just thought I bring something different to the table. Folks here say the run BFG/TA I asked what size I'm interested in a beefy tire for a heavyweight. Now my springs are shot my van is 3/4 inch lower on drivers side.

15" wheel recommend

As I mention in the upper post I looked at the other Aerostar fourm. It's listed in the FORD TRUCK ENTHUSIANTS (www.ford-trucks.com) The writer is ROJOSTAR dated 3/4/2016 it's posted #100 page 7. See listing 15" wheel recommendations. He shows Lincoln town car aluminum mag wheels on general 225-60-15 sweet looking mags.

Stock size is 215/70/14, which means a 215/65/15 fits, (I had them on my old Aero), and therefore 215/60/16 should fit. He did say his 225's rubbed on tight turns, and loaded. As for that V8 rig, I'd have loved to see pics of the narrowed 9" rear conversion!!! I pondered whether a '66-77 Bronco rear would be the right width...

Sorry for the late response. As RangerX stated, it's been a while since I was on here. I actually sold my Aerostar over 5 years ago. I was just looking through my email though & found a notification about this.

Anyways, no I did not need to lift my Aerostar. I don't remember there being any rubbing either. The stock Explorer tires did not fit. I don't remember the height of the tires, but the width was 225. My parents own an Astro with the same size tires on it though, so I will go check that out & get back to you soon.

UPDATE:
They were 225/70R15

Specially performance suspension

Has anyone lifted there Aerostar for larger tires. I'm looking at a set of explorer rims with 235 on it. The above company makes lifting spacers for the eawd Aerostar. 1" front =2 in front and there 1" rear=1 per spacer so one on top and bottom of rear spring would give you 2 inches with out air shocks. Do you think this is enuff to clear the larger tire. Each lift I'd $30.00 each the front is aluminum and the rear is a Polly product. I'm looking at $150. For rims and tires used

Doing so would throw your speedometer way off, but more importantly, it'll effectively raise the gear ratio. So, factory 3:73's will feel like 2:73's, it'll become a real dog. And, the extra weight and strain on an already underengineered drivetrain won't help.

New tire and information

After seeing the possible low gear ratio I went to a web base tire gear chart and it's really not that bad. The factor 3.73 was put there for towing and because the van was heavy for the low power.
Now the factor tire of 215=25.9 dia
Replacement tire size 325=28. dia
Factory rear ratio is. 3.73
To find you new ratio for replacement tires you divide T1&T2. 25.9/28 =0.925
You take the sum and mult by gear ratio and it gives you new rear ratio.
0.925 X 3.73 = 3.45 rounded out to 3.50/3.55
So you go from 3.73 to 3.55 better highway mpg a little slow and less pull off the line.
Now it also tells you speedo error
30 =32.4 40 =43.2 50 =54.1 now remembering that you dealing with a 20 plus speedo that's really not bad.
So back to my original question do you think a 2 inch lift will allow me to run the larger tires. I'm going Monday to see the shoo of these used rims and tires
