17" Mustang Wheels, 255's and Questions!

First post! Glad to see there is a great forum for these SUV's.

Got a question for the experts as I've searched and searched, but couldn't find my exact answer.

I've rebuilt the front end on my '97 4 door 4WD ex FBI Explorer. Went to balance the tires and three of the rims were bent. The tires were about done anyways and I have some 17" Mustang GT wheels I threw on to drive the thing around.

I'm searching for some tires. The stockers are 235/70/15's and I'm thinking 255/55/17 will be damn near the same diameter. But, with the 17" wheels - will it look goofy?

Anyone out there with pics of these mounted on their X's? Will 255's even work?

The tires will fit no problem. as for the wheels, it depends on what the backspace is. use the search engine, there are explorers on there with mustang wheels
