18" Cobra R's...whats a good tire size?

I just got 18" REAL chrome Cobra rims for a STEAL off my friends '01 Cobra...anyway, whats a good tire size? I don't want them to be too thin but at the same time, not too thick...I'd like to know what is the ideal size that will have little or no rubbing...I'm thinking maybe 50's or 55's? Also will I need to run spacers?
