I just bought a new to me explorer. I picked up a 94 sport. but it has an automatic, not a stick. I thought all sports had sticks in them. I,ve seen several sports all had sticks. are they rare. I guess I need alittle education on them. If I know this crew I am shur to get it

With the appropriate amount of money you can get any option you want on a vehicle from the manufacturer.

Or it could be a swap. Check the VIN to see if it's factory option or a swap.

No, Sports came with autos from the factory as well. My 94 Sport is an auto. I don't know what the production numbers of auto vs. manual was.

The common thing with Sports was, they were all 2 door, and they all had the red side trimline, red "Sport" logo, black grille, black headlight trim, black tupperware, black bumper, no chrome anywhere. At least I've never seen a Sport with any other trim color.

There are also 2-door XL models that are not Sports. I own one and it's an automatic, but has manual locks and windows and a manual transfer case. Mine has cloth seats, though I have seen 2-door XL models with vinyl seats.

I believe the XL was unavailable in 2-tone, and has simpler cladding - no fender flares but just a lower rocker cladding like the 4-door models. Mine does not have trim strips either.

The Gen1 Sport models I see for sale around here (western Washington) are almost all automatics, perhaps 8 or 9 of them for each manual. Of course, that may be due to other reasons than a proportion related to sales.

Auto vs manual is very dependent on location. It's darn near impossible to find a stick 1st gen in Florida, but some Midwest states might be tons of them.
