I'm suffering from a case of parasitic battery drain. It started when I went out of town for the weekend and left my truck (1988 Ranger SC) at the house. Came back 3 days later and not even a click from the starter. I replaced the alternator and the battery is 7 months old. Both tested good by 2 different shops. My radio works but the clock display backlight recently went dim? I'm also replacing my battery cables this weekend. They are not bad but could use new ones as a precautio. I'm pulling open the wire looms to the plug connectors and looking for chaffed or shorted wires. I pulled the radio/cruise/horn relay and left battery hooked up. Drain to 11.8 volts after several hours (started at 12.6v static). Not sure if that is a problem or just my battery being a bit drained (surface charge). Had a weird issue prior to all this where the cruise control would not shut off by stepping on brake. Also, the passenger tail light was intermittent (slap lens and it would come on). Need to pull the lens and check for pinched wire etc. One day last week before leaving work I had a 3.6 amp draw then the next day no parasitic draw. Then the next morning battery dead to point of a no start but soon as jumpers put on it fired right up. Any special thoughts besides diagnosis ADHD-LOL.
