1989 ford ranger 2.3l

can anyone tell me how to run a diagnostic to check obd1 codes. my truck ran great when I parked it. the next day it would start and immediately die. when i sprayed starting fluid into the throttle body it would run as long as I kept spraying. thanks.

could maybe be a vaccum leak? check to make sure that all of the vacuum hoses are connected properly
