I just bought a 1992 Explorer from a friend cheap due to transmission problems. The transmission front seal blew, and dumped a lot of the fluid at once. They changed the front seal, now it has problems. I crawled under it yesterday to see if they hooked everything up. The vacuum line to the modulator was disconnected, so I hooked it back up. Here's the symptoms: First, Second, and Reverse gears are strong. Third seems strong, but if you floor it, tranny disengages unitl you lower the rpm's below 2000. Not sure if OD is kicking in. The main problem is that the gears will not shift unless I take my foot of the throttle and let the RPM's go below 2000 or so, then it will shift from first to second, second to third, etc.. The auto parts store seems to think this is a modulator problem Please help. Thanks.

Addendum: I can try a modulator first if you think it will do any good, but reading all these threads, it doesn't seem to help anyone unless they are getting tranny fluid in the engine. My wife's car is on it's last leg, and we are planning to send it to the junkyard as soon as I get this fixed. Will it hurt anything to drive it carefully, watching the rpm's, to see if heating the fluid up will help?
