Have a 1992 Ford Ranger, 5Spd 2W/4W drive, 97,000 miles and something is draining the charge from the battery? Therefore, doesn't start. Had the battery charged, then had the battery and alternator check both ok. Would appreciate any and all suggestions.

...welcome here, try replacing the battery cables,,,;)

What about your radio? Do you have an aftermarket subwoofer?

No just a cheapo CD player & radio. No alarm system and I checked for "hidden" lites, nothing. Replacing battery cables is my next choice, will let all know what happens. Oh, seems like the starter is starting to fade, could that drain battery? Please forgive some of my questions, I know how to ask them but am such a novice at fixing them. Just seems wierd when the battery is "drained" I still have lights, interior and exterior, horn, etc. Once the battery is totally drained then nothing works of course.

How about the fuel pump relay. On old explorers it is a problem. Listen to see if the fuel pump is running after you turn off the ignition? If that is not it then you can do the trail and error method of pulling fuses to isolate a current draw.

....i would stiil venture to say it is the cables... but unclemeat is correct also on the fuel pump also being a common problem...;)

1992 Ford Ranger

Found out it was the alternator after all. When I had it tested seems like the person running the machine was new and wasn't sure of what he was doing, so I took the truck to another mechanic I know and had it re tested and the alternator was not working correctly. So my mechanic friend took out the old and installed a newbie. So far, we are running fine. Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions. I'll be visiting this sight for quite a while. Oh, have another question. What's good to put in the bed of my truck to hold groceries and the like from sliding around? And, what's it like driving a 2W/4W drive in the winter? Should I put weight in the bed? Thanks again. :)

Weight in the bed will help with winter driving for sure. I used to like two sandbags in the very back.
