1993 Ford Aerostar XL
Hey Guys,
I have been working on reviving my old '93 Aerostar for a while now and I that brings me to writing here. I got it used, almost new in '94 and I always had a good experience with this vehicle. It has the 3.0 and the XL package (power windows, mirrors, etc,). It ran pretty fast and hard as the main family van for a long time until, we started buying new cars. I always took care of it getting parts, changing oil, lubes and all that so it was in good shape. One day it overheated to the point of blowing water and steam. :( After getting it back home and checking it out, the cause was a new thermostat that fell apart inside the intake manifold and the little pill part blocked the water flow. That completely blew my head gaskets, water in the oil and all.
I have been working on changing the head gaskets this week and cleaning up all the mess you find digging down to get to that point. What a bunch of crap you will find getting there, this is no light job. The space is tight to work in, lots of cracked or broken air hoses, lots of dirt where you can't get to, to clean on a normal basis. After getting all the work done, I fired it up and test driving it, this thing hauls ass again! The work needed to do this Aerostar engine is almost not worth the trouble until you get it done, now it's worth it. I took some pictures along the way and I'll post them here when I can get the chance.
This forum has been a great source for me working things out. Thanks for all the postings, Signy
