- 1993 Ford Explorer XLT 4w
I have a 1993 ford explorer XLT. 280,000 pretty amazing miles; no engine work. Recently, I've experienced an alarming increase in oil pressure from just left of center (low side) to the last letter of "normal" on the high side. It happened on a hot day with the engine under load on a long upgrade. Oil level was fine. Since then, the needle has consistently risen and stayed in the same place after start up.
I changed the oil to a 5w 30 and added a quart of Lucas Oil treatment. Little difference in the gauge reading. I'm concerned that if it happens again under load, I could really damage the engine, blowing the seals, etc. Everything else seems fine, besides some off and on lifters noise.
I know the sensor is suspect, but it doesn't give erratic readings, rather a consistent reading. Any comments are well appreciated.
Thanks all,
Noel
