Looking to make a custom intake for my 1993 explorer. But I have a bunch of questions on how to do it? Does anyone have any suggestions on how would be the best way to go about it? People are telling me best way to go would likely be PVC Pipe, but something tells me that it wouldn't be a good idea.

I was talking to my brother, and he says that PVC may work but would just get hot, and if it didn't melt, it would just heat up the air that was going into the motor, which would either hinder my performance, or would not give me any significant difference at all. I'm not to sure if thats true, PVC is all in all plastic and I would really hate to spend the cash only so it could melt.

Will PVC work? Is there any other perhaps metal material that I could use? Someone I talked to said that exhaust pipe would work, because it's metal and that a 2.5' diameter would be fine, only thing i'm worried about with both PVC and Exhaust is would it give me trouble closing the hood, because I know the stock intake passage was bent in an odd way, I would like to undertake this project tonight If I could, because I have the cash and I haven't gotten anything for my car this week. I plan on painting the parts with enamle which I think would be good. Any suggestions?

Do a search on intakes, this gets talked about alot :D

abs plastic is better, its much more heat resilient than pvc.... and what the other guy said, please do a search, this topic is pretty much talked about several times a day!
