Hello all~
I have a 1994 Explorer XL 4 door 4.0L OHV... 5 speed with 2 wheel drive... I just finally got my fuel injector situation straightened out... it now has six new ones from this german company... runs GREAT. I need an intake to improve MPG and HP a little bit.... at autozone I've seen a cone air filter for $25 and an adapter for the MAF for $4.99... would these do me any good? I've heard the intake tube from the throttle body to the MAF makes almost no difference changing that ot. I could probably install filter and adapter in 1/2 hour or less.... any input would be great!!! take care all

So you have an XL, not an XLT? Pretty neat, XL's aren't the most common thing...

A generic cone filter and adapter might work ok, but sometimes they don't fit too well. There are mixed opinions on aftermarket intake tubes. On my truck the rubberized neck on the tube at the TB is falling apart so I'm going to have to do something soon.

yup rhett, it's an XL. manual windows and manual locks... the only option on it is the a/c, which, thanks to me, works great... I think I'll need to charge it this summer due to the freezing winter causing the fittings to contract/expand... but yeah it's in beautiful shape. it has 135K miles on it, new pads rotors, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders... new trans with 6k miles on it, new exhaust from the cats back, new tires, plugs, wires, injectors, pressure regulator, all the emissions stuff is new..... rolls nice!!!

have a good one

Welcome to the site.
I have a `92 XL. It had manual EVERYTHING.....I have since added an Overhead Console, Limited Leather Seats. I will keep the manual locks and windows.....it's kinda different, and less things to go wrong. I'll be shaving the doors, hatch, and adding a rollpan.....

As for the intakes, most here say they are for looks only. I have no personal experience with them though. I was going to get an iFab intake tube (www.ifab.net) but it appears PayPal has shut down their account and are having other 'issues' at the moment.

cone filter adapter on '99 XLT

I have a '99 4.0 OHV XLT 4X4, would it be benificial for me to just get the cone filter and the Mass air flow sensor adapter rather then get the entire intake kit?

I have a 91 xl with man everything, as for the autozone filter and intake adapter, go ahead and buy them. I bought the same stuff you want to buy, you will need to drill new holes in the adapter its really easy. Works great.

okay so on this intake subject, what are the two hoses that connect to the original air box for??? what is their purpose and what will I loose by disconnecting them... thanks

I forgot excatly what there for , but I think one is for a temp sensor other one I cant recall, but all you have to do is plug them up. I just used some metal screws I had laying around. Don't worry they won't mess anything up.
The kkm comes with some plugs also, so i'm sure your supposed to plug them up.

KKM? any links to a website which would sell this? sorry I am pretty busy with work lately and haven't had much time to get online

thanks all

GEORGE

I called Pep Boys, Autozone and Napa, all with no luck on finding this adapter. Pep Boys didn't even know what I was talking about. Does it have a specific name or something else that they would know it by?
