1994 brake installation trouble

i'm replacing rear brakes on 1994 9 inch hub ranger. i cant get the actuating cable loop over the anchor pin without the cable guide falling out of the brake shoe. the cable seems to be too short.
any help would be apprectiated

Make sure the star adjuster (at the bottom, between the shoes) is not adjusted too far out. Assuming you are replacing the shoes, the adjuster would have normally unscrewed/lengthened itself.
