1994 limited
Hello there, I have been given a 1994 explorer. On the the Anti lock brake "block valve" there are three ports , best descriped as left, centre and right. Question. Should not the centre port feed the rear brakes (drum) and the left and right ports to the respective front wheels. Currently the brake line which runs from the centre port is connected to the drivers side caliper. The left port / brake line runs to the rear brakes and the right port is connected to the passenger side. This does not look correct. Should not the centre port on the valve block feed the rear ?... and the left port to the drivers side?. Note : the centre port is larger in diameter, left and right smaller but equal size.

THANKS, Eric Cape Breton, Canada

i dont know if its wrong but if the lines look like they are stock and the brakes work fine i would just leave them the way they are

I don't have any pictures of my old 93 Limited at the ABS pump. I have the ABS pump and master cylinder from the truck, but I can't tell you if those lines could be swapped. Ask one of the many members we have here with 92-94 Explorers, the ABS systems should all be the same for those. Regards,

Brake lines

Thanks for the welcome and the replys.
Yes I am certain the orginal brake lines have all been replaced from the valve block/pump to each wheel. I suspect they are not corrently matched because it appears the larger port (centre) is larger because it feeds the rear brakes... (splits to left and Right wheel) I am thinking this makes technical sense ? However I have no idea ...
Portion of the very rusted orginal rear brake line was left connected to the inner frame rail and (cut off on both ends, I have removed it) the replacment line basically tie strapped to the orginal. The reason for replacing the lines are ; rusted and busted , will need to replace for vechicle inspection/ saftey etc... Eric

o i see ill get some pics around my m/s i think all the lines are stock,so it might help

ericc u got pics of ur limited at all

I would think if it is set up like you said, you would get some pulling to the side hooked up to the rear.

On the other hand, if you're getting something like a 70/30 or 80/20 split between braking power in the front and rear, it may not make a noticeable difference.

I'll go look at mine and report what I find.

Mine appear to be hooked up as yours are, and I know they are correct. I think the line sizes are the same, physically measure it, I think your eyes were playing tricks on you, it threw me off for a second. If you look where the ports are, they are labeled, HA for the rear (doesn't really make sense), VL for the driver's side (makes sense), and VR for the passenger side (also makes sense).

Brake lines.

Great information ..much appreciated Thanks. Eric:
