Hi, I am a new member checking in. I have a problem with the rear end of my 1994 ford explorer. I have it on jack stands, in park the when the wheels spin they go in opposite directions. But in neutral only the driver side turn. What can I check?

I will have an honor to be the first to say "Welcome!" :)

I think this is the way it should be.

Yes, that is normal. You have an open differential, so if the drive shaft is locked by being in park, the wheels will go in opposite directions when turned by hand. And welcome to the forum!

To help you understand a differential, if you have the time take the cover off and look inside while rotating the wheels. You will only need a tube of silicone sealer, a couple quarts of gear oil and a way to clean the sealing surface to reinstall the cover. This will help you understand why that happens. But yes what you describe is normal.
