1995 2wd Automatic Transmission

I have looked through all the threads, and maybe I am just overlooking this, but if anyone could direct me I would really appreciate it.

I am going to the salvage yard this weekend to try and find a trans for the Explorer. It is a 4r55e. Just wondering if anyone knows a list of other vehicles that would use that same transmission that I could look for while I am there. I have read that the Rangers, Aerostars and Mountaineers all use that ... is that right? If so, what years would it be?

The 95, and 96 Explorer have the 4R55E transmission while only the 96 Aerostar with the 4.0L has this. The 97 models have the 5R55E. Check this link for more information: http://www.drivetrain.com/autotranscrossref.html#FORD

i am in the same boat. will the 5r55e and the 4r55e trans swap i am pretty sure that i have the 4r55e but will the 5r55e work ?

It's possible that they could, but it's better to get the correct transmission or you might have electrical compatibility issues. Maybe somebody that tried it could tell you for sure.

thanks Brooklin since posting the ques i hv found that it can work but seems like it has some variables that i cant control thx for the reply
is there any specific identifyers to be sure tht i get a 4r55e trans i am going to bone yard in the morning to get one mine has some ugly scoring in the revers servo piston bore that looks to me like it may cause reverse to hang up gona put rebuilt VB and double lip viton servo seals in before put it in truck
