I'm in the same boat, my 97 xlt has jbl system with two amp , I tore up the whole inside after I swore that I wouldn't. I am assuming that I could cut the wires from the front amp and run new wires to the new alpine deck and I'm clueless about the sub amp. Can anyone help its so much more complicAted than my first explorer which had no stock sub and my baby is in pieces

to bypass your amp you need to get the forx taurus rewire harness its from metra
the harness is 70-5717 you have to pull the pass rear panel and rewire. also if you have a power antenna you have to tag the with orange wire on the white box by the factory amp to make it go up and down (use the power antenna lead in the bypass harness

Thanks man, the neighbours look pissed

i think i have the same problem. i have a 95 sport 4x4, i had an alpine installed by a shop, they told me they had to make the harness themselves and charged me 70 just for the part. alpine got stolen along with the plugs so now i have a double din i want to put in and want to be sure before i start.

1st how do i tell if i have the jbl system? i have a broken cd changer in the armrest, controls for the rear passengers and supposedly an amp somewhere.. that shop did something when they made the plug to avoid tearing the truck apart, anyone know what this could be? im not paying another 70 for a plug if i can help it

im pretty sure the antenna plugs into the back of the factory headunit if that helps, im gonna pull it out and get pics

If you have jbl system then there should be a sub in the rear and the two amps would be to the left behind that rear back panel. Don't break those plastic nails cuz there's no replacements and Unscrew seat belt
