I am in need of the gasket that goes between the transmission and transfer case adapter on my 1996 explorer sport. I have checked the local parts houses (autozone, oreillys, advance) and they have no part or even part number. If someone could get me a source, or even a part number, I would be greatly appreciative.

Second point, would just use RTV, but have heard from a career ford mech that RTV and ford auto trans do not mix. T/F?

Have you tried the dealer? That's probably the fastest way cauz they stock this gasket, parts stores on the other hand, do not.

How important is having this gasket? There is no fluid in the tail house. Just out of curiosity.
The gasket is more important on the auto trans cauz they tend to leak into the tailshaft housing. The manual trans usually doesn't.

I got mine from Transmission Exchange in Portland, OR, phone number 1-800-776-1191. Part # is 1350-54. Or, just tell them what it is and they will find it no problem.

Yes, you do need a gasket, since there is tranny fluid in the tailshaft holusing.

thanks guys, I will look into all those sources. Will post once I find one.

found one at ford for $5. Thanks for the help guys.
