Does ANYONE know how to wire in a Head Unit for a 1996 ford explorer with the preimum sound system?

ANY HELP would be appreciated..are there any diagrams on this subject?

I heard you need to run wires from the back of the truck to the front to power the midrange speakers

Ok, i bought this wiring harness off the bat -

HOwever, i did another look, and saw this wiring harness (looks like it would fin my X) - http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/SCOFD13B

As of now, i took my back trunk panel off, and found where to attach my antenna. I needed to run a cable from the trunk (where my built in factory amp is) to the head unit. The original wiring harness that i bough has some of the common functions....and i was able to get the head unit to light up (i didn't hook any speakers up, becasue i dont know if i should use a wiring harness, or from what some peopl ehave said, you need to run wires from the back of your factory amp back up to the head unit).....but my power antenna did not go up...

As said, i need help, any help would be appreciated

I am the man u are looking for I'll bet :)

Hey, How's it goin MBXBoy? :)

You sound just like me... because I was in the same exact situation. I also have a '96 Explorer Eddie Baeur with Premium Sound. I wanted to ask you if you've been able to get sound and all that jazz out of your speakers... The ONLY thing I can't tell you is how to get your antenna to go UP and DOWN (yet). ;)

I know everything else about an install, because I did one myself with subs, and EQ, amp, + a new Alpine Headunit. Let me know what your situation is, but Right away, I'll tell you this:

On the back of your Factory Radio, you don't even need to use anything from that Black Square connector. All you'll need is that Grey Rectangular connector. :)

This should help clear some of the confusion (if not add more) hehehe....

But let me know if I can be of any help. I have wires/colors+functions/where those wires should go.... and what to do with them most importantly.

Let me know....

Thank you!! YOu are a god send!! I actually figured out that you didn't need the black connector (square one)

IT like came to me as a revelation last night in the middle of the night  i just kinda sat up in bed and was like "i don't even need thta one!"

LOL

Anyway, as of now, i think the only thing i need is which wires are which on the long thin connector.

If you could tell me what the fords wires are leading up to that, that would be great!!!

when i did mine i ditched the stock amp the thing is a waste. all factory amps are a waste. I had my antenna replaced by the guys who installed my system. They couldnt figure out the antenna thing they had to replace it for free.

see, i figured out my antenna, however it will be a ***** to wire

I need two "two function" swtiches...

Like, you can flip the swtich up, middle, and down

left and right swtich

left = top prong = power

left = middle prong = nothing

left = bottom prong = ground

same set up for the right switch

In order for the antenna to go up, put the left swtich to the up position, and the right swtich to the left position. once antenna is fully extended, flip to middle.

To get antenna down, flip left swtich to ground, right switch to power, and antenna goes down.

I know this is going to be the BIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGEEEEESSSSSSTTTTTT BIIIIITTTCCCCHHHH to do but i need radio...mabey i should just get XM :)

Radio RECEPTION doesn't come from those lines........ ;) the reception only comes from the ANTENNA RECEPTACLE wire. Those wires have nothing to do with reception. All they have to do is control the antenna up and down. If that's the most important thing (up and down) then go right ahead and giver it a shot. :) I would love to see how u rigged it; but if RECEPTION is what you are concerned about, the antenna receptacle that was actually PLUGGED INTO THE AMP is what you're looking for.

I think I told you how I did my antenna receptacle... I just took the antenna out and disconnected the antenna wire from the receptacle ITSELF, and ran a new wire from the antenna straight to the Headunit :)

Works good for me anyway. :)

talk with you later,
-Mike
