I own a used 96, manual tran. 4 wheel drive explorer. Bought it with 32,000, now has 55,000. The problem I have is that when I come to a stop at the bottom of a steep hill or just plain stop in the middle of a hill the truck stalls out.
I have this problem about 60% of the time when I drive down my own drivway and stop.
I have tried many different things, ie.. clutch in when I stop, clutch out in neutral fast stops, slow stops. each time the battry light comes on the truck stalls out. I have tried going very very slow and come to a very easy stop, this work a bit, but I still wonder what is up. Yes I took it to the dealer and they stated it would not stall out for them. go figure, I am 32 and have never owned anything but manual trans. vehicles. I love the truck but, can not figure this one out. A friend mentioned that it may be an elecrtical prob. when the vehicle jumps forward at the stop, maybe some wires touch that should'nt, which in turn causes the truck to stall out.
Any coments from anyone on this would help.
I live on one of the fingerlakes in NY and was going down a large hill. I needed to stop, put the break on and lost everything, it stalled and I nearly went off the cliff. Help... SDA
