1996 Explorer transmission problem.

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer that has a transmission problem. I have never had a problem with it, but the other day i went to go in reverse and it wouln't move. You don't here any whining or slipping or anything but it dosen't move. The reverse lights come on but no gear. after that i noticed the O/D Off light keeps on flashing when it slips. then later that same day when i got to about 15 it starts to rev and it does it again at 30 but that seems to be the only gears,( you just let of the gas and then it shifts) and still no reverse. The fluid is good and red/pink and full. Can you please help me out. I don't understand what it could be just messing up like that.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread to the transmission section. You have to get the codes read since the flashing overdrive light represents a code which is stored in the computer.

Ok, the light isn't always on when it slipd though. It only comes on every once in awhile. But it always has the problem. I've had a lot of people tell me that it could just need a new filter and fluid. But I'm not to sure.

There should be a code stored even if the light isn't on.

If you can't scan for codes right away, drop the pan and see if there are any metal broken band fragments. Letting off the gas to shift could be a broken band. That means you have a full rebuild in your future.

You could try to adjust the band to see if it could be tightened before you drop the pan.

Like where exactly are they?
