I have a 1999 Explorer, the O/D light has started blinking at me and it appears the transmission is getting ready to go out on me.

I have a guy that has a 1996 Eddie Bauer (manufacture date 11/96) that has a "Control Trac" emblem on it, TR code D on the door sticker and if I am reading things right it appears to be the 5R55E that I am looking for.

My question is; will this transmission work in my 1999 4.0 XLT?

96 is 4 spd trans - they are somewhat similar but it won't work without some frustrating modifications.

Thank you for the prompt reply, it is much appreciated. Is the Eddie Bauer a 96 or 97 with the date being 11/96? I have always heard that anything past a certain date is actually the next model year? So would that make the 11/96 a 97? I'm confused on this too and would that mean that it has the 5R55E if so?

What letter do you have on the door code?

Your wiring for your 99 is different from the 96, they changed the ABS and speedo wiring in 98, so even though it probably would bolt up, it won't work without some serious modifications, or so I've been told.

What mods are required I've already made this swap and the only code it's throwing is p0720
