Hello to all, might i say first off, but my problem is this...

I get in my truck to leave work, let it warm up for 2-3 mins and put the truck in reverse, no sound, no clunk, no movement what-so-ever other than me slowly rolling into the post in front of me. I notice the Overdrive Off light flashing the entire time, and the check engine light as well. I then put it in overdrive and the transmission quickly engages, and the forward gears seem to function properly on the way home except for a few times under acceleration the revs would jump up to around 4k from 2.5k under light acceleration and then fall quickly back to before...

Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

Thanks,
Dan

Check the fluid level.
If that's good then take it in to a transmission shop because something beyond your DIY know-how is happening.

If the OD light is flashing then the trans is in 'limp' mode which accounts for the hard shifting that you experienced. As stated, check the fluid level and make sure it's full. If you still have no reverse, then you have a real problem. If reverse is back, and the OD light is still blinking, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the code (this will also reset the CEL). If the OD light comes back on, you need to get it checked out. Try and find someone that knows how to diagnose transmissions, not just sell you a rebuilt one for $2k.

If fluid red and level is correct, you have an internal issue. May be worth to drop the pan and see if the filter isn't loose or clogged, I had a mild issue with reverse over this. If you have NO reverse though it seems like a deeper problem.

You have a valve body, gaskets, solenoids, servos all helping to build up pressure to hold your reverse gear in place. Any of these could be a problem. A pressure gauge may help in diagnosis.

If something is amiss, you will not get reverse and possibly other issues in D. Could be something in the valve body(that can be done with the trans in the car) or something internal where the trans has to come out. You will need a manual to proceed - depends how comfortable you are with the car if you want to tackle it yourself.

P.S. If you can get codes read it may help (somewhat) narrow down the problem. You may need a special code reader however.
