Hi;
I'm Marcus and I have owned Explorers for about 10 years now and love them.
Currently I own a 1997 2door sport model which currently has
194,000 miles on it.
Here's the problem:
I was driving on the highway today and heard a BOOM noise come
from the engine compartment. When I looked out the rear view mirror
I thought I noticed something bouncing in
the road behind me.
The car seemed to lose a little power and when I came to a stop
the engine was running rough and idling below normal.
The engine light did not come on and all gauges appeared as normal.
When I got home, I shut the engine off and tried to restart it.
The engine started but took about 5 secs instead of starting
immediately and then continued running very rough.
After searching the engine compartment and finding nothing
obvious, I tried restarting the now cold engine. It still started hard and now the Check Engine light was on.
I went to the parts store and had the code read.
The code was P0402 - EGR Flow Excessive.
I erased the code.
I got back in the car and it started normally and drove normally
all the way home (approx 7 miles).
Really not sure what happened, but I know this is surely not
the end of this story....
Has anyone ever experienced/heard this before and have any suggestions
or advice?
It would be greatly appreciated!
Marc
