Bought a 1997 Explorer with a swapped in 1998 Auto Transmission. The Speedometer does not work and shifts irregularly at best. Does the 1998 model year have the speed sensor in the rear-end? I have one wiring connection with a round-cornered rectangular housing for two wires. It is plugged into nothing and hangs down on the drivers side of the transmission housing.
Do I need to find a different transmission? I am planning a manual swap anyways and understand it is best to use a 1997 or older manual setup from a Ranger. Can I use the non-manual TC with that? What about the ECM? Will I need to find an ECM from a manual Ranger as well? I have read a few threads already and found some of the information I need, but any cut a dry information is welcome.
