1998 Saleen XP6
Hello,

I am a newby here, with a 1998 Explorer Saleen XP6 (4.0 SOHC and 5 speed auto transmission), which has 86,000 miles.

I am planning on changing the transmission fluid soon (by 90,000 miles). Does anyone have any advice on how to do this and on what type of fluid I should use?

Thanks,

Paul

What about the solinoid?

Hello,

What is your recomendation on replacement of the solinoid in the transmission?

Paul

ok, so is it a real XP6?? or a replica??

Hello agian,

My 1998 Saleen Explorer XP6 is real (it's #35 according to the plaque on the middle cosole and on the tag Saleen places in the engine compartment). According to the information I read on certain websites there were about 100 Saleen Explorer's were built and of those, 10 were equipred with the 4.0SOHC engine (i.e., XP6), the other's had the 5.0 litter V-8 engine (i.e., XP8).

I will take some pictures and post them ASAP.

Good. I was going to toss up the "pics or ban"

:D

We love pics...

More pics, great color. Never dug the white ones.

I tried to post the new pictures on facebook to link as I did above for the old pictures, however it errors out.

If its not raining tomorrow I plan to detail the inside of the car and I will take pictures of the plaque on the dash and in the engine compartment.

Yeah, the Facebook pics won't link up because we're not individually in your network, so we're not approved to see you albums. Eager to see- I love that Saleen color better than the white ones too...

Valvoline MERCON V full Synthetic ATF

Hello again,

I leaning towards this transmission fluid based on the fact that it is a full synthetic and is specifically rated as MERCON V rather than a universal type ATF such as Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, Amsoil Synthetic Transmission Fluid, or Royal Purple Max ATF:

Valvoline ATF MERCON V
Part No. VV360

Link

Can anyone recomend this over the other synthetics listed or any other synthetics that I didn't list?

Thanks,

Paul
