Here it is looks great was a project for me and my son. Was givin to me totaled and we rebuilt the rear fram rails. Has 210,000 on trans and 45,000 on motor was running strong for 6 months just recently seems like the trans is taking too long to shift up to second gear ans feels like it is slipping when pressing gas after coasting at 40 to 50 mph. Im thinking it is a solenoid but need to make sure of 2 things 1 what trans is it and 2 what solenoid is most likely it. We really love this truck. I am a diesel mechanic so I am not afraid to get dirty. Can any body help. Thanx Ken

trans trouble

I used an auto xray scanner and got no codes. Argh!!!

Ken, your post is a bit old but here are your answers. You have the 5r55e transmission. Your symptoms are classic. Its referred to as a shift flare on this site. This transmission gets a bad rap sometimes, its actually pretty good. You likley need a minor "rebuild", valve body selonoids and the like. There are many options and kits to fix this. You want to make sure you get all the latest updates. This is an easy way to get started with automatic transmissions. Search the rebuild diary (a stickey in the trans forum) and use the search function for trans flare. You will find all you need.

Shift trouble

Ok I changed all the solenoids in trans and the one on t/c and rear diff. Still same. The (ABS) light is on all the time and has been since I got it on the road. This is what happens. When driving for about 15 mins It starts to not shift on time rpm at 3100 then shifts and if I take off the gas then step again it races a little. If I shift manual it works. I am a certified deisel mechanic but this is entirely different. Is the (ABS) for the brakes ? And will it effect the trans operation. If so where is it. I got a code on my auto xray it was 500 which is vss and 1506 which is idle control. This is a 97 5r55e with a 4405
T/C Any help would be great.:salute:

I just wanted to know if anyone thought more electrical or mechanical as it does it more after a drive and the speedo sometimes works. Thanx ken
