Hi there,
I will be the first to admit I know nothing about vehicles, but I'm hoping someone can give me a general idea of what might be wrong and how much time should be required to fix it.

Last week I started hearing a grinding noise from the DS wheel, I could feel it in the floor and sometimes it would make a screech noise too. I already had an appointment to have the EGR valve replaced and asked them to look at the wheel at the same time.
Well the mechanic ordered the wrong part, spent all day with my vehicle then tells me there is also a leak in the exhaust manifold and it's going to be an expensive repair, but I could still drive, just roll the windows down. I asked if he looked at the tire, he said no but it's probably just the brakes or a rock caught in the rotors and to bring it back when I was ready to get the manifold fixed and he would look at it then. I argued that I wanted him to look at it because I didn't feel safe driving it, he insisted it was safe to drive.
I drove it for a few days, the grinding was getting worse and worse, then today when I was driving home on the highway with my daughter it started making a horrible grinding screech, wobbling and was jerking to the left, I slowed down and found a safe spot to pull over and got out to look at it, the wheel is angled out at the bottom and in at the top. I called a tow truck and I just need to know ideas of what it could be and how many hours it might take, I'm worried someone will try and rip me off because I don't know anything about this.

Also does anyone know if 2 hours labour was reasonable for the EGR valve?

Thanks for any help

Lisa

Sounds like it could be bad wheel bearing which is very common.

How long does that usually take to fix? Is there a way to post pictures?

Probably would be 1 1/2 hr job at the shop. I think that you have to host your pictures on the internet first like photobucket etc and then link to the website.

I second that. It sounds like a bad bearing. I'd try a different shop. That guy wants to take his wife to Jamaica on your dime. If it were the brakes making that noise him saying it's safe to drive without looking at it really scares me. The bearing is an easy job for any reputable shop. 1 to 2 hrs max.
