- 1997 Explr 4x4 XLT V6SOHC
I just bought (in August 1999) a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT with the SOHC V6. I took it to Big Bear Lake, CA the next weekend. It ran great up too the mountains. I have two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that ride in the back inside kennels. They love the Explorer, too. They also loved swimming in the fresh water (vs. the salty ocean here in San Diego).
