Hello this is my first post as i just bought a 1997 explorer with 90k miles its a awd 5.0 v8 model. Now to the problem.

While idleing the tach reads fine seems to read fine till the engine hits 2k and than it sits there till the rpm's drop when OD takes over (rpms drop lower than 2k again)or you come to a stop.Sometimes it goes higher than 2k and that only happens when the speedo works which is about once ever 10 times i drive it and seems only when i hit a bump it works and than hit another it cuts off. Also while the speedo is not working the odo does not work as well but when the speedo is working it records miles on the odo. Cant tell ya if cruise control works simply cause i dont have the buttons to know how to work it on my steering wheel. Also the temp guage seems to read very low,it changes from start up and fluctuates where it reads from night and day so i know its reading just reading very low(on C last line), I looked everywhere and found alot of people with this problem but never a reason why. Thanks in advance please help me:salute:

Welcome to the forum.

it is a common problem. tons of info in the search. let me quote myself (see below)

there are tons of threads related to this. and they all vary, so.... check the link below and start reading and diagnosing your problem. there could be a number of reasons why it has stopped, just like my speedo is now bouncing all around out of nowhere (loose connection). yours could be something simple like that, then again it could be much more complex, none of us here are really gonna know till you start to diagnose the problem step by step.

just read a few of the threads in the link below, and go from there.
