My 1998 Ford Explorer XLT has the 4l and 4h flashing sometimes, O/D light comes on and stays on. Car will not go into high gear and when I turn, feels clunky-the slower and sharper the turn, the worse it feels. All was fine and then suddenly problem started?

Anyone have same experience?

Sounds as though your 4L isn't disengaging. What transfer case do you have? Is it the control trac? For verification purposes, how are you shifting out of 4L?

The switch is on auto-moving switch does not help.
Not sure which I have.

If you have auto, 4 High, and 4 Low, you have the control trac. Try putting the switch into 4 Low, put the vehicle in neutral with the brake on, switch to auto and wait a few seconds. If that doesn't work, crawl under your driver side door and you should see a motor bolted to the back of your transfer case. There are 4 10mm bolts holding it. Remove it. Block the wheels, and, with the vehicle in neutral, turn the pointer, using pliers, to high range (H). This is done by turning it all of the way clockwise.
