1998 Mercury Mountaineer rack & pinion removal help is needed.

Need some help, have the rack and pinion disconnected on my V8 but I can't figure out how to remove it. Doesn't seem to be any room to get it out. Do I need to raise the motor to create more room or what?

I had to rotate mine forward and push it toward the passenger side at the same time. It's tight as you have found out by now. A little persuasion is helpful.
Remember to center your steering wheel before disconnecting the rack and make sure the rack is centered before reconnecting the collar and pinchbolt. Swearing may be helpful also.
