- 1998 XLT Ranger ext Cab
I have an ongoing saga regarding my 1998 Ranger EXT Cab 4.0 4wd. I love this truck, it is great. But, theres always a but. I bought it 1 year ago. When I took it on the back of the lot, I went from 2wh to 4wh and to 4wl, Yes the light lit up and low worked, I assumed it worked. You know what they say about assume (ass-u-me). Ok, We recently had a pretty good snow and 4 wh did not work. I put it on a lift, engaged the tcase and the differental turned and the cv's works. We decided the better ides of vacuum hubs was bad. I did the fix where you cut out the "wagon wheel
and simply push in the boot to lock, it worked.
Today another snow, the 4wh and 4whl lights won't come on, period. I checked, they do come on when you turn the switch on. Then, They flashed 6 times. Anyway, why did this suddenly happen after the hubs beking fixed. Also as another kicker, I have had a problem with door ajar light on for a while. The "dinger" goes when the doors are closed and the key in the switch.
This is getting old, I cannot afford to go to Ford and set my cash on fire. There has got to be a way for a moderatley intelligent person to fix this. I have thought about unhooking the batt for 30 minutes and see what happens. Also another goodie, the check engine came on for the first time ever and says lean mixture, both bank, of course, I don't know how accurate auto zones codes really are....Help
