Hi!
I have a 98 explorer with the 4.0 Sohc, I do get some wierd things happening to the engine, and I cant figure out why...
Heres the deal:
- Sometimes its hard to start, it cranks and fires up, then dies, on second try it usually runs, also experienced that it barerly cranks, almost like its out of battery, try it a couple of times, then it cranks fine and starts.
One time it didnt start at all, it just crancked and cranked, and there was no spark, had to tow it back home, had it sitting in my garage for a couple of days, then when I tried it again, it started right away.. replaced cam sensor, crank sensor, plugs and coil after that.
- When Im driving and pushing the throttle pedal down, it takes a couple of seconds before the tranny downshifts, and the engine sounds wierd, sounds like its drowning itself in gas or something, and I`ve experienced the "check gage" light comes on, and I notice that the oil pressure gage is jumping up and down. Then when the tranny finally downshifts it stabilizes again..
-When Im standing still in D, and flooring the throttle, the engine is really slow, and it sounds again like its drowning in gas, until I reach 3-4k rpm, then it takes of, also noticed if I let the throttle a bit out, the truck accelerates faster...

Like I said, cam sensor is new, crank sensor is new, tps is new, coil, wires and plugs are new, camshaft chains have been checked for proper timing, O2 sensors are new, tranny is new, fuel filter is almost new, same with the K/N filter, trucks got about 130k miles on it.
Anybody got any Idea what could causing these things?`
Sorry about my english not beeing to good, Im from Norway:)
Thanks
Torbjorn

no, I havent checked the fuel pressure, is that something I'll need the dealer to do, or is it possible to do myself? How do I do it?
I just took of my IAC valve now, to clean it, but its a sealed unit so I cant open it, but I took it off now, right after the truck has been driven for 4 hours, should it close totally? Cause I can blow air without problems through the holes. I have not toutched the ignition after it was stopped warm

The dealer checked my fuel pressure today, it reads about 30 psi at idle and 35 when they put some rpm on it, is this ok reading? The dealer said it was good though..
