1998 wont shift out of park

wife's explorer won't shift out of park. I have replaced the brake interlock switch and disconnected the linkage from the tranny and from the column. I can shift the vehicle into any gear normally from the tranny itself but the shift lever will not budge. With the cable disconnected from the column, it seems to be a problem in the column. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had the same problem but it was the brake switch. Might want to get a test light up to it just to make sure. Fuses and relays could of also gone bad. Good luck
