The AUTOmatic 4WD on my 1999 EB is not working. I can switch to 4WD HIGH and make it up the snowy road to my house but in AUTO it is all over the road - and definitely not going up the road. We have not had this problem before and we live in a very snowy area and bought the car new. We've taken it Ford three times. They say there is nothing wrong! (As in.. all of the sensors say things are working properly and if they put it on the rack and stop the back wheels the front wheels turn.) On snow, I've watched the rear wheels spin and the front wheels just sit there motionless. Also, if you keep trying AUTO on a slippery road there are loud noises from underneath that shake the car.
How can 4WD HIGH work when 4WD AUIO doesn't? What do I need to get fixed?
Thanks.

I'm def no expert with these trucks...yet ;) but it sounds like a sensor that determins when the auto 4x4 will work is not working or something. Maybe someone can chime in a little more. I wouldn't be to worried because you still have alteast 4x4

Ford has checked the sensors - 3 times.
Yeah, we still have 4WD HIGH (and we also have a 1992 without the AUTO), but, with the alternating patches of ice and dry asphalt we get, the AUTO adds a significant safety factor. One way or another, we need to get it fixed.
