I have been searching on here but have found nothing.
I have a 99 explorer and a few weeks ago my "4X4 auto" stopped working.
If I put the switch in regular 4x4 high it works perfectly. I really depend on the auto setting because I live in northeastern Pennsylvania where the road conditions change every mile.
I took it to aamco and they did a series of tests and said they think its the ABS module not relaying speed info to the transfer case. Are the ABS and 4x4 systems connected? One day when I was stuck in a rut in my driveway the ABS light did come on, which was right around the same time the auto stopped working?
Any suggestions would help because I am paying 50 bucks an hour for guess work. They are going to try swapping a used ABS module on Monday to see if it fixes the problem.
