I have a 1999 Explorer, V6, two wheel drive with 175,000 miles. When you turn right at low speed (pulling into a parking spot or backing out, forward or reverse) it makes a terrible metal on metal grinding noise. It doesn't do it at full lock, maybe about half way. I put new brakes and front wheel bearings and it still does it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Matt

Check your lower ball joints. If it happened at full lock I would grease the steering stops.

Fixed it

Just want to let everybody know I found the problem. I got somebody to listen to it while I backed up and it was the drver side bumper rubbing the tire. The "chrome" bumper ends are plastic so it didn't mark the tire. From inside the car it sounded like the passenger side. Oops! :D. Thanks
