Hi everyone, I hope I'm doing everything correctly, so if I'm not, please let me know. Anyway, here is my situation: I am fixing a 1999 Ford RAnger 3.0 Automatic for my dad. I'm fairly mechanically capable, as I just put a rebuilt set of heads on it successfully. All is well except for a slight exhaust leak :( Anyway...The transmission has "morning sickness" ie delayed engagement when going into drive when cold. The delay is only a few seconds. The trannny shifts fine throughout driving though. From all I've read, it sounds like a valve body needing a replacement?? I really cannot afford to rebuild this thing, and I honestly don't think it needs it, which is the reason I haven't taken it to a tranny shop. Should I just order a valve body and put it in? I'm kinda lost as to what to do now. Thanks.

oh yeah, truck has 114,000 miles.

Don't worry about this too much. Every car (Ford anyways) that I have ever driven has taken a second or 2 longer in the cold. Your truck does have a 5r55e and is prone to issues - but what auto trans isn't:)

If you still want to read up go to the "transmissions and transfer case" section and read through some of the stickies (threads that have be pinned up)
