Hey guys, I have a 99' v8 awd limited, and the tachometer works intermittently. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it's not working, sometimes I'll hit a bump it starts working again, then I'll hit another bump and it will stop working, so obviously something is loose or barely hanging on. Anyone know what controls the tachometer so I can see if I can just tighten something or see if it needs replacing?

Thanks for any help!

Justin

Had the same exact issue on my 2001 finally got around to fixing it a few months ago. I pulled out the entire cluster, cleaned the connections on the back of the cluster and the connectors, put it all back together, has worked perfect since.

Thanks for the reply!

I'll look into some DIY's on taking the cluster out, hopefully it isn't too bad; I'll probably save it for when it's warmer out lol

It's not hard to remove, just got to be careful removing the selector cable, other than that simple job.

Snapped mine too.... If such thing happens to you, the cables do work out of 1997-2003 F-150's as well. My junk yards did not have any explorers the same year.
