I am looking at a 1999 Mountaineer with the V8 and about 150,000 Miles on it. Body and interior seems in good shape, but I am a bit concerned about the miles.

What would you expect this vehicle to be worth? (I was going to offer $2000) How long will the V8 last if taken care of?

If there's not fluids leaking everywhere and things seem tight I'd offer the 2 grand. You should get a minimum of another 50,000 miles from her if not more. You just never know how they were cared for though. Dealer or private party?

Private party, but they claim it has been "in the family" since new.

Are Mountaineers worth more, less, or the same as an Explorer?

Given it's age being a mountaineer or explorer shouldn't make a difference at this point. If we were talking about an 06 or up then yes, the mountaineer would probably be worth more. In 99 there were essentially no differences other than headlights. I'd say offer 1500 for it. It's a good truck either way.

The Mounty is often spec'd like the Explorer Eddie Bauer/Limited in the 2nd gen so price should be comparable to those.

I see you're in Ontario. From what I understand, the Mounty was never sold up here. Is it a US spec? (i.e. mph on the speedo, odo in miles etc). I think I've only seen one 2nd gen Mounty in Alberta before and it has US plates.

If fluids check well and a carfax check out good and body and frame is in descent shape I would offer that for it. Is it the Base model or like the limited/eddie bauer? I have seen basic Mounty's before but even so I would go for it.

in michigan it's worth 3000 or so.

my 96 5.0 has 214k and a lot of life left. if you can get it at a good price you'll be happy with it

My 98 was $300 but I got a deal and a half. Either way I've put at least 2500 into it since then. With any used car your going to have to figure you'll be putting 1000 into it soon.

On the west side of the state it'd sell for $4,000 all day long. If it's solid, $2,000 is a good price. It's a V8, it's going to run a long time yet... Not to worry unless it has issues already. When you click teh key over, make sure the "Check Engine" light tests- if it doesn't, it could be blown out, or could have been removed to hide something...

Check under the rear door from underneath to see if the rockers are rusted through...

The truck is a US Spec truck that they have had for some time. Asking price is $2800, but no takers so far, so they are going to trade it in soon. I suspect the dealer will offer them $1000 as a trade in, so I think 2K is a fair price for it.

Been looking on eBay, and prices seem high for the most part. It's more of a "want" than a "need" right now, as I am not selling my XLT. I would like to have a V8, to see what they are like....
