no reverse again

Thanks for the update!

Hello again: The no reverse problem is back. It worked properly for 2 days, them it went to intermiten, now no reverse again.

I dropped the pan and checked the reverse servo. All looks fine there. The old one was chipped on the end. Could this piece be in the valve body causing the problem now. Is the valve body the next place to check?

What to check from here?

Jeff

BrooklynBay: Do you have a pic of the Reverse Modulator in the VB? I went back through Glaciers Build Thread and must have missed it...

Take a look at the lower right hand corner of the diagram.

no reverse

Hello Again: Ok I have now replaced the entire valve body. I did not want to tear one apart. We sttill have no reverse. The only time it worked was when we put the new reverse servo in. Could something else have gone wrong in that area. If I don't get this thing fixed before long it is heading for junk.

Any ideas

Jeff

It might be possible that the low/reverse band moved to the side. If this happens, it will stop making contact with the servo. One side of the band has to rest on an inner stop or it could move when the servo is reinstalled.

Is there anyway to move it back or once that happens you have tear the trans open?

hopefully you didn't get one off ebay? there are a lot of outfits that do nothing more than clean them off and box em up without testing them.. Central VB is reputable.

so the latch on the band can fall away from where there is a notch in the drum casing - causing it loose tension? Could it be that the :chipped: end of the servo caused a puncture in the band? just trying to wrap head around this,,

no reverse band

Hello: Is their a diagram or picture of what it is supposed to look like? I could look all day and wouldn't know what i was looking at.

Thanks:

Jeff

no reverse

hello: I have't had any time to work on this thing. Been busy and it is my daily driver at this time, just have to watch where i park.

Will a trans from a 2000 ranger 4.0 auto work on my 1999 3.0 auto.
I was told that you can change the bell housing. I didn't think you could do this on an automatic. If so is it just a bolt on.

Brokenfoot: Rock on! I am about to use my 99 Ex with no REV as a daily driver to give my B2 a rest. My sister got me a stick (like a Gondola Pole) and said I cud use it to "push" the Ex in case I forget I have no REV and park somewhere where I have to back up. LMAO! Let us know how the trans goes!

Hello: Its been a while. I have a chance to pick up a 1997 ranger with a 4.0 auto trans. Is this trans the same as in my 1999 3.0 ranger? Is all i have to do is change the bell hosing?

Thanks

Jeff

no reverse trans change

Both are 4wd. The trans I have still works good in the forward gears. If i take the valve body out of the old trans and put in the new trans, that should work? I can also use the original tourqe from the 3.0?

Thanks

Jeff
