1st gen 1354 same as 2nd gen 1354?

Got the truck today, its a 4405. For now, I think I'm going to do as inh suggested and stick my electric 1354 in there and set it to 2wd and forget it. Thanks again for yall's help.
I'm only 50% sure on this but I think at one point they switched from the gear driven VSS at the back of the transfer case to the solid state / ring tone design. So check the VSS before you do the swap or else your transmission might not shift properly.

I have three 1354 manuals (well two after yesterday) and all of them have a gear driven VSS.

Gear driven VSS:

Solid state VSS:

Hmm, ok. Well, I'll see when I get home. This is gonna be a couple weeks from now before I do anything to it, so in the interim, I will look for a 4405, and if I don't find one, I'll go from there.

So, I got home, and looked at the truck. It has a 4405, as we deduced, and the problem is not with the transfer case at all. The previous owner said the trans case had a bad oil leak, and was stuck in "low gear" and would not move. Well, upon inspection, I found that 3 of the 6 bolts that hold the trans case adapter to the transmission were missing, and of the 3 there, 2 of them were showing about a half inch of threads between the bolt head and the flange. The transmission was profusely bleeding there, so just FTHOI, I put a gallon of trans fluid in it, and it ran, drove and shifted just like it should. So, later today, the trans case is coming out, and the adapter is coming off, and it's getting a new gasket and a few more bolts and it should be in good shape.

Thanks again for everyones help on this, and your tolerance of my ignorance on 2nd gen parts.
