1st gen- 2nd gen rear axle ???

will a 2nd gen rear axle bolt in a 1st gen with no problems??? or what is involved in doing so ???

They're both spring under axle leaf spring setups, both are the same Ford 8.8 differential, both use the same pinion flange....

So, yes. It'll go in no problem. However, make sure that your 2nd gen rear axle is running the same gears as your first gen front axle (if your 4x4.) If your 2nd gen rear axle is 4.10 gear ratio and your front axle is a 3.27, when you hit the 4x4 button your transfer case is going to kill itself.
 






thanks for the info!!!!! just trying to go to a lower gear as cheaply as possible. I plan on changing the front to match. thanks again!!!!!
 












1st Gen drum brakes, 2nd Gen disc brakes (more desirable). You may need the master cylinder. Most here consider this to be an upgrade modification. You may also be able to swap the disc back to drum. Search this site for lots of info.
