99' Ford Explorer 5.0 AWD
Heya Everyone!

I am a brand new member and a new 1st time owner of an Explorer.

I purchased a 1999 Explorer 5.0 AWD Eddie Bauer ed. this weekend.

She is a really clean truck and has every possible option I could imagine, the only down side is that she is an AWD and not a 4x4.

I picked her up for $480 dollars because she has a bad transmission.
After looking over the rig I am leaning more to a torque converter or pump failure. She will drive in all gears for about 30 seconds, then stops and a loud medium to high pitched sound will come from the firewall around (Trans bell housing area.) The pitch changes with the rpm's.

Trans fluid is still clean and has a slight caramel smell to it.

Everything else is perfect. :)

This isn't going to be a hard or expensive fix and I have good faith in 4R70w's.

I would like to add some more pep to my rig (Even before getting to drive her, I know, I know. lol) and would like some suggestions from you guys out there about tried and true Ex mods.

Oh and before I start, I am little confused about the built in "Tuner" and being able to use a real tuner like Diablo or SCT. Can anyone shed any light on this please? I have had both and loved both for being able to tune shift points.

Here is my future mod list so far (Subject to change of course HA!)

* Torque Monster Headers (Probably OBX though after I see more feedback)
* Removal of rear cats and addition of X-Test tubes using Fords band clamps for easy swapping.
* Dual 2.5" Exhaust out of a dual in/out Flowmast Super 10 series muffler
* 1" Phenolic intake Spacer
* K&N drop in filter - Remove the rubber snorkel thing. (I may make and wrap my own CAI later from some of my left overs from Mustang CAI's that I have laying around, the elbow looks very general and a shield should be easy to whip up.)

Mods up in the air while I research more.

* J-Mod (I have read that some don't like it or that it doesn't work right)
* Cam and spring change (Need to stay smog legal)
* Tuner
* 4x4 conversion (It looks pretty simple but I hate where the shifter is, I am tall.)

Suspension Mods:

* 1.75 - 2" TT adjustment & Alignment
* Warrior 153's (I am not sagging)
* 2 or 3" Body lift kit, though I see that the steering shaft rubs the cross over exhaust runner with the 3" and stock manifolds. Does anyone know how TMH would clear? I also assume that the Axle Damper would be deleted unless a longer travel one could be located.
* Bilsteins front and rear ( I have used MonoMax's on my F150 and liked them. )
* Energy Suspension Master Front and rear kit

That's pretty much it, enough to keep my busy.
Let me know what you guys and gals think and what you might add or take away from it.

Looks good plans for that neat looking rig, nice! Still sounds a good score to me.
