05 explorer,77k miles, 4x4, 6cyl.
My explorer just started to have a few second delay going into R, and a slight thump. This is somewhat intermittent. I was planning on finally getting around to swapping the fluid/filter myself, but took to the local AAMCO to have them do it... (guess I'm lucky to have a bit more $ than time). As to be expected the guy there said I needed a whole new trans, fluid change wouldn't help, the sky was falling, etc. Then he refused to change fluid/filter... Either because:1- he wasn't making enough money doing it,2- he wanted me to come back with a blown up tranny,3- or he was an honest great American doing the right thing. Uncertain if 1,2,3 apply
I do suspect something is going on, but my gut tells me that since there are no codes, severe issues, etc... I have some other options than a fully rebuilt $4k trans job.
From what I've read on here, could be a solinoid pack starting to go??? My plan as of now is to drop the pan, inspect, replace with the 4-6 Mobil 1 ATF...
Is this a good plan? Thanks for any advice!
